Our Current Initiatives Towards Protecting Nauset Beach
As one of Orleans’ most treasured coastal habitats, Nauset Beach nurtures rare wildlife, holds generations of family memories, and helps sustain a thriving local economy.
Protecting it means protecting the heart of our community.
We have teamed up with the Natural Resources Department, whose staff work every day to protect Nauset Beach, to understand where our support can make the greatest difference. One immediate priority is strengthening their endangered species protection efforts, an area with specific and urgent needs right now.
Endangered species that need our help
Piping Plovers • Least Terns • American Oystercatchers • Red Knots • Roseate Terns • Diamondback Terrapins
why the needs are urgent
The needs are urgent because endangered species monitoring is daily, time-sensitive work. As nesting seasons begin and beach conditions shift rapidly, Natural Resources must access oversand areas quickly and their current equipment cannot reliably meet those demands. Immediate support ensures they can protect wildlife, dunes, and public access without interruption.
HOW ARE WE HELPING
Right now, our priority is raising enough funds to purchase a new Polaris for the Natural Resources Department. With this reliable vehicle, their staff can access nesting areas quickly, monitor endangered species more effectively, and protect the dune systems that safeguard our community.
